Roy Campanella was an American professional baseball player. He was primarily a catcher. He was nicknamed “Campy.”

Roy was the son of Ida and John Campanella. His paternal grandparents were Italian. His mother was African-American. Roy was married to Ruthe Willis, until her death, and then to Roxie Doles, until his death. He had two children with his former wife Bernice Ray, and four children, including television director and producer Roy Campanella II, with Ruthe.
