Hannah’s grandfather Edgar was born in Montréal, Québec, Canada, and was a prominent businessman and philanthropist. Hannah’s great-grandfather Samuel was born in Soroki, Bessarabia (now Moldova), to Jewish parents, Yechiel Moshe Bronfman and Mindel Elman. Samuel founded Distillers Corporation Limited. Hannah’s paternal grandmother was Ann Margaret Loeb (the daughter of John Langeloth Loeb, Sr. and Frances Lehman). Ann was born in New York. Ann’s brother, John L. Loeb, Jr., was a U.S. Ambassador to Denmark (from 1981 to 1983) and a Delegate to the United Nations (in 1984). Hannah’s great-grandfather John was the son of Carl Morris Loeb, Sr., a Jewish emigrant from Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Hesse, and of Adeline Moses, who was born in Alabama, of German Jewish and English Jewish descent, from a family that has lived in the United States since the 1700s. John and Carl Loeb were founders of the Wall Street brokerage firm Loeb, Rhoades & Co.

Hannah’s great-grandmother Frances Lehman was the daughter of Arthur Lehman and Adele Lewisohn. Hannah’s great-great-grandfather Arthur Lehman was the son of Mayer Low Lehman, one of the three brothers who founded the prominent investment bank Lehman Brothers (the other two were Henry Lehman and Emanuel Lehman). Arthur Lehman’s parents were German Jewish emigrants, from Bavaria and Rieneck, respectively. Hannah’s great-great-grandmother Adele Lewisohn was the daughter of Adolph Lewisohn, a German Jewish mining magnate, investment banker, and philanthropist, who was born in Hamburg, and of Emma Miriam Cahn, who was also of German Jewish origin.

Hannah is a third cousin, once removed, of broadcast journalist Serena Altschul. Hannah’s paternal great-great-great-grandparents, Mayer Low Lehman and Babette Newgass/Neugass, were also Serena’s paternal great-great-grandparents.
