Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. He founded analytical psychology.

He was the son of Emilie and Paul Achilles Jung, a rural pastor in the Swiss Reformed Church. He was raised partly in Laufen. Carl was married to Jungian analyst and author Emma Jung (née Emma Marie Rauschenbach), until his death, with whom he had five children.

Carl’s paternal grandfather was Karl/Carl Gustav Jung (the son of Franz Ignaz Jung and Sophie Maria Ziegler). Carl’s grandfather Karl was born in Mannheim, Grand Duchy of Baden, and was a German-Swiss medical doctor, political activist, professor of Medicine at the University of Basel, administrator, and freemason. Franz was a prosperous doctor, and was the son of Johann Siegmund Jung and Maria Barbara Nullmann.

Carl’s paternal grandmother was Sophie Frey (the daughter of Johann Rudolf Frey and Margaretha Stückelberger/Stickelberger). Sophie was born in Basel, Switzerland. Johann was the son of Hans Rudolf Frey and Anna Maria Iselin. Margaretha was the daughter of Johann Rudolf Stickelberger and Rosina Christ.

Carl’s maternal grandfather was Antistes, Samuel Preiswerk (the son of Alexander Preiswerk and Anna Maria Burckhardt). Samuel was born in Rümlingen, Switzerland. He was a Swiss Reformed Lutheran theologian, pastor, church hymn poet, author, and editor. His interests were in the Hebrew language and Hymn poetry. Alexander was the son of Hans Bernhard Preiswerk and Anna Wolleb. Carl’s great-grandmother Anna was the daughter of Samuel Burckhardt and Dorothea Ryhiner.

Carl’s maternal grandmother was Carolina Louise Augusta Faber (the daughter of Johann Carl August Faber and Carolina Friederika Louisa Rooschütz). Carl’s grandmother Carolina was born in Germany. Carl’s great-grandmother Carolina was the daughter of Georg Ludwig Rooschütz and Christiana Gottliebin Faber, who were from Nürtingen, Esslingen, Baden-Württemberg.
