This great story comes via Evil Beet – I hadn’t heard a peep about it, because, you know, who follows Adam Brody news? But Adam Brody has opinions, and they’re pretty interesting. I only know Adam Brody because he was “the cute nerdy guy” on The O.C. (I didn’t watch it, so I have no idea if that assessment of his character is correct), and he had that small part in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It seems like Adam could have been a solid character actor, but his career never really took off, which is too bad. He is kind of hot. Nerd-hot.
Anyhoodle, Adam is part of that ensemble film The Romantics (also starring Katie Holmes, Xenu and Anna Paquin), and he was interviewed by Diablo Cody recently. The topic of fame and a celebrity’s handling of the media became a topic, and Adam (or Diablo, I don’t know), brought up Kristen Stewart as an example of a young star who complains about her level of fame. Adam said:
“It’s only gotten worse, I’m sure, being a celebrity. At the same time, I don’t have a lot of patience for people who moan about it too much. Because there are many things you could do… It’s like, quit… you don’t need to be an actor, so it’s like, if it’s that much of a problem… there’s the door.”

As you can imagine, the Twihards were butt-hurt. According to IMBD/WENN, “The comments sparked an online hate campaign from loyal followers of the vampire franchise.” Oh, they struck HARD. Taking his comments at face value, I can see both sides – Adam is still a “struggling” actor, hustling to get parts after a decade in Hollywood, and Kristen gets it all handed to her at such a young age, and he got pissy and jealous. On the other side, I interpret it as one professional actor telling another professional to suck it up and stop complaining, which, well… someone needed to say it to her. But it doesn’t matter now, because Adam recanted and apologized:
Adam tells MTV News, “It wasn’t taken out of context. I saw (the interview) and thought I sounded like an idiot. I did. Regardless of how anyone else took anything, I would think that sounds very ungentlemanly and I sounded like a jackass.”

Adam Brody: douche, gentleman, or truth-teller? I think he’s a truth-teller who got scared of alienating a powerful fan base, so he was the one to suck it up. Plus, he fell on his sword so completely, he does sound gentlemanly and sweet.
Now, if he’s going to pull “takesies-backsies” then I’ll be the one to say it to Kristen: grow up, suck it up, and act like a professional. There are thousands of struggling actors out there who would kill to have your problems. Stop being such a lip-biting neurotic. Now, for my hedge: She does seem to be doing a little bit better. We’ll see.
